Today's major database and ETL engines use B-tree or binary-tree based indexing algorithms. B-tree based algorithms operate on the item level, utilizing time consuming multiple passing, comparing and checking along tree branches until the item is located.

Through its nanotechnology research initiative, Data Integrity Institute Inc. has developed the most efficient indexing algorithm that does not operate on the item level, but rather on the item sub level (nano level), and never performs time consuming multiple passing, comparing and checking along tree branches until the item is located. With such fine granulation, there is no overhead making the sorting process fast and efficient.
